liberation
dedicated to your personal and our collective
Born in Seoul, raised in New York, now living in Los Angeles - I’m a big city girl exposed to diverse communities and challenges. My experiences – especially as a queer immigrant woman, domestic violence survivor, and navigator of chronic mental health issues, in a low-income household headed by a single mom – fuel my lifelong passion for social justice.
For 20+ years, I’ve worked as a grassroots organizer, campaigner, advocate, researcher, grantmaker, grant writer, and coalition organizer. As a multi-issue advocate with an intersectional lens, I’ve worked on diverse issues because I believe our work is interconnected and no single issue campaign is going to bring about a socially just world.
I also believe that moving towards a more just, inclusive and equitable world is fundamentally a joyful and liberating pursuit. I rarely felt that joy in an industry with miniscule resources compared to the need. I experienced disconnection with myself, conflicts with colleagues who were working towards the same cause, and burnout.
Hi I’m Heddy Nam,
This practice is named after my mother, Kyungja Rosa Lee (1950 - 2008), the most loving, wisest, resilient, and creative individual I have ever met. When I established this practice, I drew strength from my ancestors, including my mom leaving her homeland to provide a better life for her children in the U.S.
